About E-AHPBA

The European Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (EHPBA) was founded in 1999 as the European regional association of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary association (IHPBA). In 2002 the association expanded to countries of the Middle East and Africa.

The primary mission of the Association is to be the prime interdisciplinary organization for HPB-surgical science and scholarship in our region and to provide an international forum for presenting the developing state of the art and science of HPB-surgery. This mission is currently accomplished by conducting a biennial scientific meeting (alternating with the IHPBA World congress), and other annual events such as consensus conferences and workshops.

As one of the key topics for the years to come, the EAHPBA has decided to focus on teaching and training in HPB surgery. In this context, the EAHPBA aims to set up a structured programme of theoretical HPB postgraduate courses covering the field of HPB as well as more practical courses for those who want to be trained in e.g. laparoscopic HPB surgery. The present Maastricht HPB Post-Graduate Course intends to help HPB surgeons to prepare for the UEMS HPB Exam.

The E-AHPBA organizes European Board of Surgery Qualification (EBSQ) examination on HPB Surgery during most of its meetings but also as stand-alone exams on behalf of the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes (UEMS). More details can be found here.
